Picasso's Muse

Inspired by Marie-Thérèse Walter, this
17 year old girl, whom Picasso first
met early in 1932, reflects classicism of
the early 1920s and surrealism with a
prominent curve-linear design. Appearing
in a series of pictures, which were painted
in the same year, her very rounded,
rhythmical forms show her lying down,
seated or sleeping. Her trademark blond
lock appears in almost every picture.
Picasso managed to conceal his
relationship with this lady, who bore him
a daughter (Marie) for many years even
from his closest friends.
